Tempoh privacy
18 October 2026
Tempoh listens through the microphone to find the tempo of the music playing, and on the iPhone to name the track. This page says what happens to what it hears.
What stays on your device
The sound itself. The tempo, the waveform and the beats are all worked out on your phone or in your browser, and nothing Tempoh hears is recorded, stored or sent anywhere to do it.
Naming the track (iPhone app)
To name a track, the iPhone app uses Apple's ShazamKit. For a few seconds when it starts listening, and then every two minutes while it's open, it makes a fingerprint of the sound: a compact signature that can't be turned back into audio. That fingerprint goes to Apple's Shazam service, which says which track it matches. The audio itself never leaves your phone. Apple's handling of it is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
If you tap a named track, Tempoh opens a Tidal search for it, and from then on you're on Tidal, under Tidal's privacy policy.
What Tempoh doesn't do
- It has no accounts and asks for no personal details.
- It collects no analytics and shows no adverts.
- It shares nothing with anyone, apart from the fingerprint above.
- It only listens while it's open on the screen.
